What works to help your dogs who are scared of the fireworks?

I tend to stay away from treats when a dog isn’t feeling sure or safe, (or anywhere close to) because worst case scenario you risk associating that to the treat/you giving it to them. Or at the very least your dog will simply ignore the treat because they're too overly concerned with their fear and thus the treat won't really help change how they're feeling.

Save treats for when your dog is feeling/has done something good, to maintain that association, like for after the fireworks have ended and your dog feels better.

Something you can try in the moment is to help your dog move. If they're small enough you can pick them up and carry them as you move along. If they really don’t want to move or walk with you indoors at all, then your best bet is to drown the noise as much as possible and just ride the wave, by their side.

But if your dog is willing to get up and do things with you, that’ll likely be your best bet and you can then even try doing activities that help your dog loosen up and move.

✅ When in doubt, always help your dog walk it out!

Sadly nothing can explain to your dog what those sounds and vibrations are about (this is where the anxiety stems from).
